Do You Have an Eating Disorder?

It is estimated that eight million Americans have an eating disorder. There are three basic types of eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating. These types of eating disorders can be very serious untreated, it can be life threatening.

Anorexia

Anorexia is an eating disorder, do not eat where you eat enough. This is one of the most common types of eating disorders. In addition to not eatingenough to eat, anorexics may exercise too much. You burn more calories than on a normal person needs about 1,200 calories per day just for her body to take basic functions, the kidneys, heart and lungs working, and so on. People with anorexia do not take in enough calories to support normal body functions. About ten percent of people diagnosed with anorexia actually die from the condition.

There are other reasons why people can be anorexic. Studies suggest many people with eating disorders have a history of child abuse and that this is a crucial factor for their disease. Bulimia

Bulimia is another commonTypes of eating disorders. It is an eating disorder in which one eats but then purges by vomiting the food. People with bulimia may also abuse laxatives so that food moves more quickly through their digestive systems, thus not fully taken up by the system. You may or may not be binge eating an excessive amount of food before rinsing.

Bulimics keep the normal weight by vomiting after binging, or it may limit food intake at times toor have to vomit frequently, and therefore underweight. Sometimes, instead of vomiting, they may exercise excessively or fast counter for a certain time to the amount of food they eat.

Bulimics suffer from many of the health risks of anorexia nervosa. They also suffer damage to their teeth and their esophagus by the acidity of vomit, and also develop ulcers. You can get constipation or diarrhea. Like other people with eating disorders, they may differ fromsocial situations and isolate differs from another.

Compulsive overeating

Compulsive overeating is an eating disorder at the other end of the spectrum. It is understood one of the few types of eating disorders. Compulsive overeaters have an overwhelming urge to eat, even if they are not hungry or when they are full. Often, too much to eat for emotional reasons. You can eat when they are sad, anxious, lonely, or experiencing other unpleasantemotions.

Compulsive overeating is a serious eating disorder. The risks of obesity are well known. Compulsive overeaters may suffer from heart problems, breathing problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, and diabetes. They also experience feelings of embarrassment and shame in social situations.

All eating disorders carry serious health risks and require medical treatment. Psychological treatment is usually required as well. If you think you or someone you know has an eating disorder, you should have a doctor for evaluation and treatment as soon as possible. Eating disorders can be fatal if not treated.
